Cincinnati native and Chicago resident, Pete Sayke, hates boxes. Coffins are boxes. OG Bobby Johnson got traded for boxes of cigarettes. Boxes basically epitomize death. Live! Be alive as possible! That’s what art is all about. No one should box themselves in. For that reason, Pete Sayke just does whatever feels right. Straight boom-bap bars? Sure. Trap-heavy banger? Okay. Electro-funk-reggae-bluejazz? A little weird, but fuck it! And even though his sound is deeply rooted in soul and substance, one listen to a Pete Sayke project and you will hopefully see that you are going on a journey with various vibes and emotions along the way.
Have you ever heard Pete Sayke before? Probably not haha. So here’s what he’s been up to…
After releasing his solo project, The New Black, in 2010, Pete partnered with emcee Mike Schpitz to form the duo Grumpy Old Men. a group that was invited to perform at Atlanta’s A3C Hip Hop Festival and was also “Broken” on Shade45’s Wake Up Show in 2013. In the Summer of 2014, Pete Sayke joined forces with Chicago producer, Lucas Hart aka ThatKidMyself, for their joint release titled Forever. In 2017, Pete and Indiana producer and owner of Bringing Down the Band/No CoSign Records, Lonegevity, teamed up for their collaborative effort, Heaven Can Wait (December 2017).
